Malibago, Saint Bernard is 2009 Awardee of

National Search for Barangays with Best Sanitary Practice

 



Over the years, the municipality of Saint Bernard has garnered for itself various national awards for the effective implementation of its programs and projects under the able leadership of its active Mayor, Hon. Rico C. Rentuza.  In 2009 alone, the municipality was awarded the Gawad Kalasag Award for Best Disaster Coordinating Council (3rd Place in 2009 and Grand Prize in 2008); and 2nd Place in DOT-ATOP Best Tourism Practice-Festival Category for the Umadagat Festival.  Yet, another significant award was bagged by the municipality in the “2009 Search for Baranagays with Best Sanitary Practice”.

Barangay Malibago is one of the 30 barangays in Saint Bernard located along the coastal area.   Under the leadership of Mayor Rentuza and the stewardship of Malibago barangay captain, Hon. Rosila Legaspi together with Dr. Freddie J. Letigio (Municipal Health Officer), the barangay constituents have regularly cleaned and beautified their area, year round.  Thus, the barangay took the challenge and presented an entry for the said search.  Barangay Malibago was awarded twice with the following:

  1. Regional Search Grand Prize Winner awarded with PhP150,000 and became a finalist for the national search.
  2. National Search Grand Winner awarded additional cash prize of PhP200,000 and a plaque.  It bested 30 other entries regions throughout the country.

 

The winners were judged according to these criteria:

  1. Toilet per household;
  2. Accessibility to safe drinking water;
  3. Solid waste segregation;
  4. Clean and green surroundings.

 

Awarding ceremonies were held last January 29, 2010 at Hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza, CCP Complex. The award was received by Hon. Rico C. Rentuza(Mayor), Dr. Freddie J. Letigio (Mun. Health Officer), Hon Rosila Legaspi (Malibago brgy Captain), Mrs Ferlita Cinco (Provincial sanitary inspector), Mrs Estemia Barce (barangay secretary), and Mrs. Marlin Brua.
